The Countdown Begins…
Spring has sprung, and the days are finally getting longer and warmer. This of course means more training outside, but it also means that racing season is upon us! Now, if only the trails would dry out so we could actually ride some single track.
Team Virtus is going to be very busy over the next several weeks. We will be deploying all of our team members to various locations throughout the midwest over the next month, so make sure you keep your eye out for us and come up and say hello. Next weekend, March 26th – 27th, all 6 members of Team Virtus will be racing at various locations.
For starters, three of us will be leaving for the High Profile Adventure Camp in just SEVEN short days!!! Casey will be driving in from NY to meet Bob and me next Friday in Mount Carroll, IL. We’ll have a full day and a half of instruction on navigation, fixed ropes, paddling, and more. Then on Sunday, we’ll be competing as a 3-man team in the Lightning Strikes Adventure Race. The weather right now is calling for cold rain on Friday (which is okay since Friday’s instruction is not out in the field), and then it should be cool but sunny the rest of the weekend – perfect for adventure racing!
Team Virtus is also sending Zack to Arkansas on March 27th and 28th for the Ouachita Challenge, a grueling 60 mile mountain bike race. He’s been training his ass off for this race, so he should do really well and have a blast.
Also on March 27th, Darin and Drew will be destroying the competition at the 2nd annual Race to the Rocker, in Cuba, MO. Both guys did really well in last year’s race, and I’m sure they’ll dominate again.
On April 17th some of us may be competing in the Truman Lake Adventure Race. We’re not sure which of us will come together for this race, but some of us should be there. We had an unbelievably good time last year even though we faced several trials and tribulations (be sure to read Casey’s hilarious race report from last year to get the full story).
The Cap City Adventure will be held on April 24th in Jefferson City, MO. This is a great race to get your feet wet in adventure racing, and it is a fun, fast race for the more experienced racers out there. It’s relatively short, there’s really no orienteering to speak of, it is well organized, and there is a great after-party in down town Jeff City. If you’re new to the adventure racing scene, this would be a perfect race for you to get started.
Then on May 1st, Bob, Zack, and I will be heading down to Mountain View, AR for Syllamo’s Revenge, another grueling mountain bike race consisting of 50 miles of single track through the rugged Ozark Mountains.
So, there is the rundown of the next month or so. We’ll definitely be busy, and I hope that I’m still married by the end of all of this (I love you, honey!).
